San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) Added on January 16, 2024

  • Category: Transportation Resources
  • County: San Joaquin

Description:
Commuter (BART)

Express

BRT Express, a high-quality Bus Rapid Transit service, operates with fewer stops, off-board fare collection, and more frequent trips than regular bus service to make it fast, reliable, and convenient. To meet the demand for its most popular service, RTD also employs higher-capacity hybrid articulated buses.

Hopper

Metro Hopper is a deviated fixed-route service serving popular destinations throughout the Stockton city limits. With seven routes that operate Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., buses run approximately every hour. County Hopper is a deviated fixed-route service serving San Joaquin County and providing intercity connections between Stockton, Tracy, Lodi, Manteca, Ripon, Lathrop, and Escalon. There are 5 weekday routes that operate from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

In order to accommodate passengers who are not able to reach their destinations within a rural area, each County Hopper can deviate from its normal route a distance of up to one mile. Reservations are required.*

Local (Stockton)

RTD Local serves the Stockton Metropolitan Area, connecting RTD’s Express, Intercity, Hopper, and Commuter services. Local routes serve the Downtown Transit Center (DTC), Mall Transfer Station (MTS), and Hammer Transfer Station (HTS).

Paratransit

RTD offers paratransit service for those who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This program is specifically designed for those individuals who due to their disability, are functionally unable to use fixed-route services in San Joaquin County.

This service is available seven days a week by appointment only during SMA service hours and within three-quarters of a mile of SMA fixed routes. Persons interested in this service must obtain certification under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) through an eligibility process.

RTD will provide free transportation to and from the ADA eligibility in-person interview if needed. Individuals may bring a family member or a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) to accompany them to the interview. To schedule an eligibility interview, call (209) 242-9965.

VanGo!

Van Go! is for flexible trips such as visiting a friend, going to the mall, or grocery shopping. For time-sensitive appointments like visits to the doctor, dentist, chiropractor, or church, we suggest considering alternative options such as Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) like Uber or RTD’s fixed-route services. Paratransit services may also be a better choice for those who qualify, as they guarantee prompt arrival and departure for appointments.

Tips for Using Paratransit Service

To schedule a Paratransit trip, you must call (209) 668-5600 or use the Turlock Transit App by 5:00 p.m on the business day before you want to take your trip.. This will assist us in providing the trip closest to your preferred pick-up or departure time.

Phone reservations can be made by calling from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, or anytime on the Turlock Transit App.

When you call, be prepared to provide the following information:

-name

-telephone number

-pick-up address

-destination address

-desired destination arrival time

-type of mobility aide, if any

-number of passengers traveling with you

-need a return trip, if applicable

If you need to be somewhere by a certain time, book the trip as a "Drop-Off". The reservationist will give you a 30-minute scheduled appointment window for the bus to pick you up so that you arrive up to 30 minutes before, but not after your desired drop-off time. If you would like to be picked up no earlier than a certain time, book the trip as a "Pick-Up". The reservationist will give you a 30-minute scheduled appointment window for the bus to pick you up, up to 45 minutes after, but not before your desired pick-up time.

Please be ready to be picked up at the beginning of your scheduled appointment window. Delays can affect other passenger's pick-up times. To be respectful of other passengers and to help keep buses on schedule, drivers can only wait for up to three minutes after they arrive for passengers to board the bus, unless the passenger has an ADA eligibility requirement that requires more time.

Please wait at the entrance of your pick-up location and be visible to the driver in the bus. Our drivers are not allowed to enter a private residence, and they must keep their vehicle in sight at all times.

For paratransit trips, we have a three (3) shopping bag limit. Strollers must be folded, and carry-on items must be secured in your lap or under your seat so that the aisles are kept clear at all times.

Turlock Transit reserves the right to refuse service to passengers who demonstrate unsafe or disruptive behavior. Violations of Turlock Transit rules may result in suspension and possible prosecution.
